In celebration of 46th annual Le Carnaval des Compagnons the grade 12 French Immersion students at Chippewa hosted a carnival for grade seven students from their feeder schools Pinewood and JW Fricker Thursday.

Chippewa teacher and facilitator of the event Heather Chirico said the day was a great success for both sets of students. She says the grade 12 students were in charge of developing the program that would demonstrate their leadership skills.

“This is a mandatory class for the grade 12 French Immersion students and I was looking for something to demonstrate their command of the French Language beyond novel study and grammar,” she explains.

“The idea is that both the grade 12 and the grade 7 students would as much French as possible and experience as much as they could outside of the classroom.”

“And their French has been great all day.”

Although the outside events were cancelled due to weather conditions the students had a great number of activities inside the school including a mock fashion show, cooking class, drama and dance lessons, as well as relays events in the gym.

“The whole day went really smoothly. They had a concert over lunch and the students’ council covered the cost of lunch.”

“I’m happy with it ... the (grade 7) group is very polite and they have been a delight to have ... not on single complaint,” she says.
