St. Joseph-Scollard Hall Catholic Secondary School is hosting a pasta dinner fundraiser on Thursday, February 12 as part of its ongoing efforts to help The Rick Mercer Report "Spread the Net", a grassroots campaign which aims to prevent the spread of malaria among African children by raising funds to purchase bed nets.

The Bears and local celebrity servers, including Mayor Vic Fedeli, Mac Bain, Daryl Vaillancourt, Dave Mendicino, Peter Chirico, Monsignor Norm Clement, Dan Hunt, Jamie O’Connell, Mitch Belanger and Mike Monaghan work together in serving dishes during two dinner services at 5 p.m. and 6 p.m.. This event is open to the public. Tickets are $6 for students and seniors, $10 for adults, and $25 for a family of four. Tickets are available at the school (in advance or at the doors on the night of the event).

Those wanting more information should call 494-8600.

St. Joseph-Scollard Hall has raised over $10,500 for Spread the Net, placing them in third place among participating schools across the country.

Rick Mercer will personally visit the school that raises the most funds. His visit to the winning school will be featured on his nationally televised show, The Rick Mercer Report on CBC. All funds must be raised by the end of February and submitted to Spread the Net by March 1, 2009.
The school is also asking the public to donate empty bottles at the Spread the Net Bottle Drive in the St. Joseph-Scollard Hall main lobby on February 18 and 19 between 4-6:30 p.m.

Those who wish to donate online or would like more information on the school’s other STN fundraising efforts should visit: www.npsc.edu.on.ca/sjsh

Let’s help SJSH get to first place, win a visit from Rick Mercer and, most importantly, fight malaria in Africa!

Spread the Net is a grassroots campaign which aims to prevent the spread of malaria among African children by
raising funds to purchase bed nets. Co-founded by Rick Mercer and Belinda Stronach in partnership with UNICEF,
Spread the Net is attempting to raise enough funds to purchase 500,000 anti-malarial mosquito bed nets at $10 each by June 2009. To date, they have purchased and distributed 180,000 of these life-saving items. Every day, malaria claims the lives of 3,000 African children under the age of five – over one million every year. One insecticide-treated bed net can protect a child for up to five years.
