Students in Nipissing are benefiting from urgently needed repairs and renovations to improve publicly funded schools with new windows, boilers and roofs, as well as upgrades to facilities like science labs and auditoriums.

“Building and improving school facilities is very important. Our students need safe places to learn and grow,” said Nipissing MPP Monique Smith. “Every project helps to ensure that our students have safe, warm and healthy places to learn.”

Under the fourth year of the government’s Good Places to Learn program, local school boards in Nipissing will receive the following new funding to help them continue to improve school buildings and ensure that all students have safe and supportive learning environments:

• $2,852,082 for the Near North District School Board

• $2,502,068 for the Nipissing-Parry Sound Catholic District School Board

• $93,673 for the Conseil scolaire du Nord-Est de l’Ontario

• $754,950 for the Conseil scolaire catholique Franco-Nord.

Since 2005, this initiative has been improving the condition of schools across the province. Under the first three stages of the program:

• The Near North District School Board received $23,555,100 to undertake 8 boiler projects, 5 window projects, 24 roof projects and 110 other school improvement projects.

• The Nipissing-Parry Sound Catholic District School Board received $4,522,372 to undertake 2 boiler projects, 4 window projects, 7 roof projects and 119 other school improvement projects.

• The Conseil scolaire du Nord-Est de l’Ontario received $1,701,842 to undertake 1 boiler project, 2 roof projects and 31 other school improvement projects.

• The Conseil scolaire catholique Franco-Nord received $6,818,915 to undertake 2 boiler projects, 5 roof projects and 20 other school improvement projects.

Investing in school infrastructure strengthens the province’s economy by creating jobs and positioning Ontario’s students for success.

“By investing in better schools for our students, we’re helping them to succeed and reach their full potential,” said Education Minister Kathleen Wynne.
