Nipissing-Timiskaming MP Anthony Rota will be hosting an information session for local not-for-profit, public-sector, and small private-sector employers who are interested in applying to the 2009 Canada Summer Jobs program.

“I am committed to working with local applicants to ensure that their proposals meet the necessary requirements of the Canada Summer Jobs initiative and that they are in the best position possible to receive funding,” says Mr. Rota.

The information session is set to take place at the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 23 in the Dress Lounge on January 20 from 2 p.m.– 4 p.m., and will enable applicants to meet directly with Service Canada officials. The session will consist of a presentation, an internet application demonstration and a question & answer period. Time permitting participants may also have the opportunity to have their prospective applications reviewed by Service Canada officials.

According to Mr. Rota, “Canada Summer Jobs funds quality career-related student work experiences that deliver important community services for children, families, people with disabilities, seniors, and others.”

The Canada Summer Jobs initiative provides funding for not-for-profit, public-sector, and small private-sector employers with 50 or fewer employees to create summer job opportunities for young people 15 to 30 years old who are full-time students and intend to return to their studies in the next academic year.

The application deadline for the 2009 Canada Summer Jobs is February 27, and employers may choose to submit their applications online, by mail, in person, or by fax.
