Police warn home is not for rent

The North Bay Police Service is still getting complaints of fraudulent home rentals.

Recently several people have attended a home within the city in regards to verifying the suitability for rental usage.

In fact, the home has never been available for rent.
The fraud M.O. is as follows:

- A prospective renter checks an internet site to find an available home to rent.

- The alleged rental owner then requests a deposit and that this money usually be sent to an out of country address.

- The prospective renter then arrives at the home in question and finds that the house is not for rent and that the actual owner has never placed any ad on the internet.

Our Service would like to caution the general public about such practises and advises the public to check out the home first and then look into answering the ad.
