North East Region – Current Highway closures due to severe weather causing dangerous conditions are as follows:

Hwy 11 @ New Liskeard, Harley Township closed temporarily for vehicle removal
Hwy 11 – North of New Liskeard to Cochrane, Kapuskasing, Hearst and beyond - open Hwy 634 - Smooth Rock Falls closed
Hwy 101 – East of Matheson open to local traffic
Hwy 101 - Matheson to Hwy 144, Timmins open
Hwy 144 - Southbound @ Hwy 101 closed
Hwy 560 @ 144 - Gogama closed
Hwy 537 – closed due to water across the highway
Hwy 17 – Just west of 535 - Open to one lane – Very slow!!!

Anyone stranded in Matheson without accommodations is welcome at the Catholic Church on Fourth Avenue, Matheson.

OPP are recommending that unnecessary travel be avoided until the weather conditions improve. If traveling check with the MTO Road Closures line 1-800-268-4686 or http://www.mto.gov.on.ca/english/traveller/conditions for current highway closures.

Remember that emergency crews are putting their lives at risk when responding to emergencies in this weather. Stay home if you can. If you can’t stay home, move over when you see emergency personnel coming!
