First African-American sex symbol dies

Eartha Kitt, the sultry singer, dancer and actress, died on Thursday at the age of 81.

Andrew Freedman, Kitt's friend and publicist, said she died of colon cancer which was discovered two years ago and was recently treated for at Hospital in New York after a period of remission.

During her long career Kitt won two Emmys and was nominated for a third, as well as a Grammy. She also had Broadway's nod with two Tony nominations.

Kitt also enjoyed a string of hit songs including "C'est Si Bon," "Let's Do It" and "Just an Old Fashioned Girl." And of course her widely popular Christmas hit "Santa Baby."
