Fatal MVC on Highway 69

On December 17th, 2008 at 7:05 p.m. Sudbury O.P.P. officers were dispatched to a motor vehicle collision on Highway 69, Servos Township, approximately 3km south of the town of Estaire. A south-bound mini-van had crossed the centre line and collided head-on with a north-bound pickup truck. The driver/lone occupant of the pickup truck received serious injuries and had to be extricated by the local fire department. The driver/lone occupant of the minivan was pronounced deceased at the scene of the collision.

The highway was closed for approximately six hours while O.P.P. conducted the on-scene investigation with the assistance of an O.P.P. collision reconstructionist. During the highway closure, traffic was re-routed through Highway 537 and Highway 64.

Conditions at the time of the collision were clear, and road conditions are not believed to be a factor. A post mortem examination is to be conducted in Sudbury. The investigation is continuing, however charges are not anticipated.

The name of the deceased will not be released at this time pending further next of kin notification.
