Talented young writers from across the Nipissing-Parry Sound Catholic District School Board have authored the newest edition of You’re my Hero books.

Members of the community are invited to join our students, their teachers and families for an evening of author readings and book signing on December 15 at St. Joseph-Scollard Hall Catholic Secondary School.

You’re my Hero “Kids” is a compilation of short stories honouring heroes from all walks of life, from parents to teachers to police officers and professional athletes who have, in some way, touched the lives of these young authors.

“We are so pleased with how engaged our young writers became in this project,” said Superintendent of Education,
Joanne Bénard. “We thank all of the participating principals and teachers for their hard work and especially for the guidance they provided each student. Most of all, we thank the heroes for their inspiration and for the role they each played in the lives of our students.”

This project has ultimately made heroes of everyone involved in its production, as eight dollars of every book sold will be donated to One Kids Place and the Packsac Smiles Organization of North Bay.

One Kids Place is a children’s treatment centre that serves
children and youth in the Districts of Nipissing, Parry Sound and Muskoka who have communication, developmental and
physical disabilities.

“On behalf of our kids with special needs and their families, we want to sincerely thank the Nipissing-Parry Sound Catholic District School Board and all those involved in creating this edition of the You’re my Hero book,” said Judy Sharpe, Executive Director of One Kids Place. “By working together, we are creating a culture of connection to support our kids and their families - close to home.”

Packsac Smiles is a not for profit organization that partners with local school boards to support disadvantaged children in the local community in acquiring essential school supplies and clothing.

“We are very appreciative of the ongoing support and partnership that we receive from the local school
boards,” said Packsac Smiles spokesperson, Darlene Tripp. “We are thrilled to be chosen to be a part of
this fantastic endeavour of sharing children's stories with the community. This potential funding will…help sustain the organization to guarantee that we can continue to deliver the program in our community.”

Please join us in celebrating our talented young authors and their heroes. The event will begin at 6:30 p.m. in the Bishop Carter Auditorium, where some of the authors will share their stories with the audience.

You’re my Hero “Kids” is now on sale for $20 at the Nipissing-Parry Sound Catholic District School Board office, local English Catholic schools, Canadian Tire, and Gulliver’s Books.
