GreenSpace North Bay will be hosting a public workshop on
Thursday evening that looks at links between healthy communities and official plans. Open to the public, the session will work with participants to examine connections between the built community and health, and identify possible strategies to strengthen those connections.

This workshop provides an overview of the concepts involved in planning built environments and an opportunity for participants to share their experiences and generate ideas for action, which may range from small, practical steps to longer-range strategic processes directed at planning policy. A timely support for the residents of North Bay who are interested in having North Bay's Official Plan - currently under revision - reflect the principles and priorities of healthy communities, the workshop will be of particular interest to health promoters and to advocates of a community that encourages walking, biking, neighbourhoods and a sense of place.

Workshop leader Paul Young is an independent consultant affiliated with the Ontario Healthy Communities Coalition. An experienced facilitator, Paul has 18 years experience in landscape architecture and planning, and has also worked for more than a decade as a health promoter at the South Riverdale Community Health Centre in Toronto. He is a registered landscape architect and urban planner.

The workshop will be held in the Urban Cafe at 101 Worthington Street East, on Thursday, December 4th, from 6 pm to 9 pm. Everyone is welcome.
