Keep digging ... winter storm warning continues

As 8:31 AM EST Monday 1 December 2008, Environment Canada issued the following winter storm watch for the North Bay - Powassan - Mattawa area.

Heavy snow and blowing snow today.

This is a warning that dangerous winter weather conditions are imminent or occurring in these regions. Monitor weather conditions..Listen for updated statements.

The winter storm centre is located over Georgian Bay this morning and moving northeastwards. Snow from this storm will continue throughout much of the day with total snowfall amounts ranging from 15 to locally 25 centimetres in many areas.

In addition strong east to northeast winds are whipping up freshly fallen snow resulting in reduced visibility in local whiteout conditions from blowing snow especially in exposed areas.

Winter driving conditions may be expected across most of central Ontario due to low visibility in heavy snow and blowing snow. Travellers should exercise extreme caution and alter plans accordingly.
