Local lawyer appointed as Sault's newest judge

TORONTO - The province has appointed two judges to the Ontario Court of Justice, effective December 3, 2008.

Madam Justice Nathalie Gregson was called to the bar in 1994.

Since then, she has been a sole practitioner specializing in family law.

She has also represented the Children's Aid Society for the districts of Nipissing and Parry Sound for the past nine years.

She helped to organize a collaborative family law program in North Bay and has represented children as a panel member of the Office of the Children's Lawyer.

She has served as a deputy judge with the Small Claims Court and has been an active member on the board of North Bay's Legal Aid Ontario Appeals Committee.

As an involved member of her community, she has also served on the board of governors for Canadore College.

Chief Justice Annemarie E. Bonkalo has assigned Justice Gregson to preside in Sault Ste. Marie.

Mr. Justice Paul John Stephen Kowalyshyn was called to the Bar in 1987.

He has been a sole practitioner since that time, focusing on civil, family and criminal law.

He has been a participant on the civil and criminal law duty counsel panels.

He was the president of the Lambton Law Association from 1997 to 2001.

Mr. Justice Kowalyshyn has served as both vice chair and chair of the County and District Law Presidents' Association, and represented the association on the Legal Aid Ontario Advisory Committee.

He also serves as a board member for the Sarnia-Lambton chapter of the Kidney Foundation of Canada, as well as the Inn of the Good Shepherd, an organization that works to address the needs of the homeless, unemployed and working poor in the community.

Chief Justice Annemarie E. Bonkalo has assigned Justice Kowalyshyn to preside in Chatham.
