In an effort to get holiday shoppers to think green the downtown artists collective ‘Art on Main’ held a special afterhours social wine and cheese Wednesday night to launch their Christmas shop local campaign.

In the spirit of the ‘Yellow Tie Event,' guests sported a yellow cardstock tie with guest of honour Mayor Victor Fedeli receiving a recycled piece of wearable art for his famous collection.

Art on Main’s Marketing Coordinator Jason Portugues notes that during this time of economic uncertainty the collective believes that it is important to remind the community that it is artists who provide the color, creativity and vitality to the community.

“Each year artists donate thousands of dollars worth of work to local organizations who rely on the generosity of artists for fund raising; including auctions, raffles and door prizes. We believe that now is the time to recognize these contributions by considering the purchase of art for holiday giving.”

“Also, if people are truly interested in thinking "green" this Christmas they will not drive out of town but stay and shop at home.”
