Martha Hall Findlay has announced that she will not be a candidate for the Leadership of the Liberal Party of Canada.

"I have been deeply touched by the support for my candidacy from all across Canada. I thank everyone for their encouragement, and I hope for their understanding with this difficult decision.

I have discussed this at length with family, friends and supporters, and have considered many factors. I have concluded that, at this point in time, my personal commitment to the Liberal Party, and to this great country of ours, will most effectively be served by doing the best job I can as MP for Willowdale, by contributing to strong yet respectful participation in the House of Commons, and by continuing to help rebuild and revitalize the Liberal Party, from the grassroots, in all regions of the country.

I look forward to working with caucus colleagues, our current Leader, the new Leader once elected, and all Liberals, in addressing the challenges we face. We must re-inspire Canadians about what Liberal means in Canada--fighting for equality of opportunity, justice, and Canada's place in the world, while continuing our legacy of economic responsibility, fiscal prudence and prosperity.

Our task is to inspire Canadians to recognize and embrace the immense opportunity, and promise, that is Canada."
