Below is the a detailed backgrounder on a truly gracious elder who suffered a great loss when her husband was killed in action August 8, 1944 in France.

Beatrice Faubert Whiteduck of Nipissing First Nation was born on April 29, 1913 to Catherine Couchie and Dave Faubert. She was raised with 6 siblings on Main St. W. at the present site of Artic Canvas. She received her education at St. Mary`s School on First Ave. and also spent time working at St. Mary`s Academy. Beatrice and her brother, Percy Faubert are the only surviving siblings.

On September 1, 1930 Beatrice married Lawrence Whiteduck son of Sarah Whiteduck of Golden Lake area. As a young bride, Beatrice lived on the shores of Lake Talon in Rutherglen and camped on Lake Temagami while her husband guided at Camp Chimo.

Beatrice lived through the Great Depression, Second World War, and at the age of 31 was left widowed to raise 9 children when her husband, Lawrence was killed in action August 8, 1944 in France.

Reminiscing, Beatrice looks back at her accomplishments as a seamstress and shares her love of playing cards, bingo, cooking, and berry picking.

With much admiration, she looks back on her nine children, 43 grandchildren, 72 great grandchildren and 17 great great grand children.

Today, Beatrice is still living independently and remains a tower of strength for her family.
