Contraband cigarettes discovered during traffic stop

Mattawa OPP seized over 500 cartons of contraband cigarettes on Saturday, October 18th, 2008 as a result of a traffic stop on McConnell Street (Highway 17) in Mattawa, Ontario.

At approximately 11:00 a.m., a Mattawa OPP officer was conducting routine traffic patrol when he stopped a motor vehicle. Upon further investigation, it was revealed that the vehicle contained over 500 packages of contraband.
Investigation will be ongoing with Ministry of Revenue.
Charged is Wayne W. McKENZIE, 38 years old, of Notre Dame du Nord, Quebec with Possession of Unmarked Cigarettes and Possession of Unmarked Cigarettes for the Purpose of Sale, under the Tobacco Tax Act. McKENZIE is to appear in Mattawa for Court on January 23rd, 2009.
