“Though it would seem as though Conservative’s do not think Voters understand tax policy, corporate accounting, or the fragile state of Canada’s economy. Polls are showing that Canadians do, and are seriously questioning the Conservative’s over simplified policies,” said Craig Bridges of the Green Party of Nipissing – Temiskaming.

He further commented that, “Contrary to what the Conservatives would have the voting public believe, (in the words of the American media) the American economy, and the world economy by default, is in ‘in crises’ and ‘facing economic chaos.’ And yet the Conservatives continue to state that the fundamentals of the economy are strong? I simply don’t understand who they think they are snowing?”

On the matter of curbing Green House gas emissions Craig remarked that, “Conservatives continue to state that a carbon tax as proposed by the Green Party will cause the price of consumer goods to increase, whereas their efforts to stop pollution through massive fines to polluters will not? How will their corporate taxes not be passed onto consumers as they claim carbon taxes will? In addition, the Conservatives plan to put their monies from fines into a fund for these very same companies to access in order to reduce pollution. So in effect under the Conservatives, wasteful polluting companies are going to be subsidized with their own pollution fines while consumers pay higher prices? Where is the logic? With the carbon tax sums the Green Party proposes to reduce income and payroll taxes, increasing take pay and overall employment levels not give it back to corporations.”

With regards to tax policy Craig Bridges said that “the Conservatives continue to say that their decrease in the GST helped average Canadians, but GST rebates to these very same families were reduced as well. Besides most Canadians understand that GST cuts help those who have money to spend, not those who are struggling. An income tax shift to help those with lower incomes in clearly more beneficial.
