Everyday in North Bay, substandard municipal roads and bridges negatively impact vehicles (cars, trucks, buses and bikes), the environment and motorists' health. That's why representatives from CAA North & East Ontario (CAANEO) were at Matthew's Automotive today to encourage motorists to voice their frustrations by voting for Ontario's Worst Municipal Road.

"The price of the damages to vehicles, the environment and road user safety caused by Ontario's crumbling municipal roads and bridges is unacceptable," said Korey Kennedy, Manager of Public and Government Affairs for CAANEO. "We are once again calling on North Bay's road users to make their voices heard by voting for Ontario's Worst Municipal Road."

Members of Ontario's Worst Roads Campaign are also advocating all levels of government to step up and provide long term sustainable funding for municipal roads and bridges.

"We commend the McGuinty Government for making some strides with one-time funding to assist in the repair and maintenance of municipal roads and bridges," said Kennedy. "However, in order to ensure that municipalities have the necessary resources to continuously repair their crumbling infrastructure, sustainable funding is required. That is why we are providing road users with the opportunity to send a message to their Mayor, the Premier and the Prime Minister."

Additionally, in light of the upcoming federal election, the Worst Roads Campaign is a prime opportunity for constituents to encourage each political party leader and all local candidates to address this vital issue.

Road users can have their say by casting a ballot at the CAA Travel Centre in North Bay, or by going on-line at www.caaneo.ca/worstroads.

Over the course of the next six weeks, the campaign, sponsored by CAA North & East Ontario, CAA South Central Ontario, CAA Niagra, CAA Insurance and the Ontario Road Builders' Association, will be travelling to communities across the province to underscore the importance of making motorists' voices heard. Voting closes October 20, 2008.
