OPP investigating an assault aboard Greyhound Bus

Hunt Township - Superior East Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police is continuing the investigation into an assault that occurred on Sunday afternoon on a Greyhound Bus approximately 5 kilometres south of White River on Highway 17.

On September 21, 2008, at approximately 4:15 p.m., police responded to a report that a passenger had been assaulted by another passenger on board a westbound bus. The suspect disembarked from the bus several kilometres prior to the scheduled bus stop in White River. The OPP located the suspect and arrested him without incident on the side of Highway 17 in Hunt Township.

The 20-year-old male victim was taken to the Lady Dunn Hospital in Wawa and has been transferred to Sault Ste. Marie for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.

There were no other injuries to any of the 13 other passengers on board the bus. The OPP Forensic Identification Unit completed the examination of the bus earlier this morning.

David Wayne Roberts, 28 years, of Manitouwadge Ontario has been charged with one count of aggravated assault and two counts of breach of probation. Roberts is in custody pending a bail hearing in Sault Ste. Marie on September 22, 2008.

The investigation is continuing.
