Today, New Democrat candidate for Nipissing-Timiskaming DIANNA ALLEN said Stephen Harper is the “wrong leader on jobs.”

MS. Allen pointed to decades of neglect by Stephen Harper and his predecessors on the issue of skills training for adult workers.

The New Democrat announced a plan to directly address the skills shortage that is already affecting two-thirds of Canadian employers.

MS. Allen said the New Democrats will commit $100 million a year for an expanded Canadian Training and Apprenticeship Tax Credit.

The proposal will:

• Provide employers with a better, targeted incentive to do the right thing – invest in training.

• Reform employment insurance for workers and tradespeople to provide greater access to full and part-time training.

• Work with the provinces and territories to develop a better way to recognize prior learning, including for foreign workers and new immigrants.
“You deserve a Member of Parliament who will make jobs for working people a priority,” said Allen. “I will put you and your family first.”
