Dr. Catherine Whiting reminds residents who draw their water from a surface water source to treat the water before drinking it. Residents with private water treatment systems should ensure their filters and disinfection systems are in good working order. Due to circumstances last night, West Nipissing Police and the OPP went door-to-door to inform residents of a raw sewage spill from a truck that overturned at the Dokis River Bridge, on the Little French River.

The Ministry of the Environment is continuing to investigate the situation. We do not expect any further action at this time.

Health Unit staff continue to work with the Sudbury District Health Unit, police, the municipality of West Nipissing and the Ministry of the Environment.

For more information on water treatment see the Health Unit’s website www.healthunit.biz or call the Health Unit at (705) 474-1400 or 1-800-563-2808.
