News Release

The City of North Bay is currently developing a new Land Use Plan. This Plan is called an Official Plan, which will guide Council’s Land Use decision making.

New Official Plan

The Official Plan is a major long-range land use planning policy document used by the City to guide growth and development in a sustainable manner in the city for the next 20 years.

The main purpose of the new Official Plan will be to provide a set of clear goals, policies and implementation mechanisms to manage the physical growth of the City and guide land use planning.

Parks Plan Update 2008

As part of the new Official Plan process, the Parks & Recreation and Leisure Services Department has updated the 1991 Parks Master Plan. The Parks Plan Update incorporates an Action Strategy for park maintenance and development over the short, medium and long term, as well as an inventory of parks within the community.

Mayor Fedeli states that “the opportunity for citizens to be involved in the future land use for the City is one they should not miss. Council is confident that with the thoughtful input of residents, various stakeholder groups, and professionals alike, this Plan will ensure that North Bay remains an exceptional place to live, work and play.”

Councillor Mike Anthony has indicated that “the development of a New Land Use Plan only occurs every 20 years, so this is an exciting time for the City of North Bay. It is important that the Community knows that this is a public process, and their input is invaluable in this process.” Councillor Anthony further states “that it is important that citizens get engaged in the process so that their opinions are heard both for the Parks Plan Update and the City’s new Official Plan.”

Draft #1 of the Official Plan and Parks Plan are complete, and available for public review and comments.

Electronic copies of both Plans, including background studies, are available online at
