A sign of the times

For the second time in the past few months volunteers of the Davedi Club on Airport Road arrived at the club to find someone had changed their marquis.

Lena and Hub Fedeli both say it is very disturbing that the club has been in existence for over 50 years and this is the first time they have encountered this style of vandalism.

The couple says the vandals trampled through the flower bed and lifted bricks out of the garden, stacked them and then changed the sign’s message to be one big profanity.

“We’ve been in business for 56 years and we haven’t had any trouble,” states Hub.

“We’ve had the marquee for a long time as well and haven’t had any issues till now, it is a well lit sign and this is a busy street.”

“It’s embarrassing,” adds Lena explaining that they have a great deal of foot traffic now that they have the takeout food section in operation.

The club is now arranging for caging to be installed, at a significant cost to the club, in order to prevent further messages to be disturbed in the future, but that move is of little comfort for Fedelis.

“It is scary, when and where do they stop,” asks Lena.

“It they get away with this, what’s the next thing ... it costs us money for their fun.”
