The final scheduled North Bay Blooms community ‘Wednesday Night Clean Up’ took place last night with the crew from TD Friends of the Environment picking up trash and ‘Greenin’ up’ the Laurentian Avenue and Trout Lake Road area of town.

Sixteen bags of trash later the TD Canada Trust staff had the entrance to Northgate Square looking a great deal greener today.

“Sixteen bags of litter were picked up along one of the most littered locations of the summer for one of the busiest and the last of North Bay Blooms Wednesday clean ups for this summer,” notes Blooms Chair Chris Mayne.

“Thanks you to Mandy, Judy and all of the TD Canada Trust staff for their help and a great cleanup effort.”

“TD Friends of the Environment are also one of the major sponsors of North Bay Blooms this summer so thank you especially for making much of this summer's activities - tree planting, the front yard garden contest and Wednesday night clean ups possible - we could not have done it without their support,” he adds.

The previous Wednesday found The Rotary Clubs of North Bay and Nipissing members cleaning up just down the road at the intersection of Cassells Street and Highway 11. This crew also had a good haul for city crews as they picked up about 10 bags of litter, one shopping cart, a chair, and a plastic picnic table.

“More disturbing, and with appreciation to North Bay AIDS Committee representative Dennis Chippa, two discarded needles were safely removed from a grassy area where they may have been a risk to anyone inadvertently walking or sitting in the area,” states Mayne.

“Thanks to the club members who came out and pitched in, and for new North Bay Rotary Club President Ghislaine Cote, this was one of the first hands on projects as President which started July 1st.”

The North Bay Blooms committee will wrap up for the summer next week by announcing the winning front yard gardens.
