The severe thunderstorm that hit North Bay early Saturday evening has city crews hopping and some neighbourhoods knee deep in water.

At times during the storm the streets resembled lakes causing navigation issues for motorists and flooding out the streets in the 5th/6th Avenue and Ferguson Street, while North Bay Fire Department crews were all over the city answering alarms.

Fire Captain Brian Emond says crews responded to 3 alarms within 5 minutes of each other immediately following the lightning strikes. He said the crews aren’t nervous responding to the number of calls.

“With the thunder, lighting and heavy rains we usually get a lot of calls,” he says.

“Usually with this type of weather you expect it.”
