Toronto – Eric Morin, Past President of Ontario Public Service Union (OPSEU) Local 635, was elected chair of the Ontario Public Service (OPS) Central and Unified Bargaining Team for the union's next round of collective bargaining that begins this fall. . Morin, a North Bay resident, served as the team's vice-chair during the latest round of bargaining. He is a long time North Bay and area union activist who has been elected to several union positions at the local, regional and provincial levels in the past.

Morin is looking forward to the challenge of leading the union's and the province's largest bargaining unit into collective bargaining with the McGuinty Government in early November 2008. Morin said that "it is truly an
honour to lead the 42,000 women and men who perform important work on behalf of the people of Ontario on a daily basis. I am committed to doing whatever is necessary to ensure that our members continue to work in a competitive and progressive workplace that will restore Ontario's position as a world leader in the delivery of public services."

Morin also stated that "My prime objective is always to improve the quality of life for all OPSEU members. Our work in this round of bargaining will continue to be focused on rebuilding public services so that our members enjoy stability in their lives and every citizen of this province can count on a strong public service that will ensure their health, safety and prosperity."

OPSEU's current four year collective agreement is set to expire on December 31, 2008.
