Today Premier Dalton McGuinty appointed the Honourable Monique Smith, Minister of Revenue and MPP for Nipissing, to the post of Deputy Government House Leader.

“I am honoured that the Premier has decided to confer upon me responsibilities as Deputy Government House Leader in addition to my role as Minister of Revenue,” said MPP Smith. “Since being appointed Minister last fall, I have relished the opportunity to contribute at the Cabinet table on behalf of Nipissing and Northern Ontario and I welcome this further opportunity to contribute on behalf of the Government in the Legislature.”

In taking on this appointment, Smith will share responsibilities with her colleague Michael Bryant, Minister of Aboriginal Affairs and Government House Leader, in working with opposition party House Leaders to ensure the affairs of the Legislature are carried out in the most productive, effective and efficient way possible.

Smith takes over from former Public Infrastructure Renewal Minister David Caplan, who today was appointed Minister of Health and Long-Term Care.
