Two men arrested by North Bay OPP on Tuesday, June 17th, 2008, have been treated and released from North Bay General Hospital and are currently in custody facing a number of charges.

Halton Regional Police are in the process of investigating a home invasion robbery that occurred in their area. Halton Regional Police called the North Bay OPP when information came to light that persons of interest were in the North Bay area.

The North Bay OPP Criminal Investigations Unit assisted Halton Regional Police surrounding the information provided which lead them to a local North Bay business and subsequently to a business in Eldee on Highway 63.

The subjects were observed by Officers from the Surete du Quebec and started to flee from the Quebec Officers re-entering the province of Ontario where members of the Ontario Provincial Police took control of the fleeing vehicle apprehension.

OPP members deployed five different spike belts in four different locations in an attempt to stop the fleeing vehicle. The driver of the fleeing vehicle avoided all spike belts during the apprehension attempt. OPP Officers utilized a “Rolling Road Block” manoeuvre to slow the fleeing vehicle. The driver of the fleeing vehicle attempted to strike the cruisers and in doing so lost control of his vehicle and rolled over.

They are both in the custody of the OPP and will be brought to bail court on June 19th to face charges.

Details on pending charges and the identity of the people in custody will be released once the charges are formally laid. The investigation is still ongoing and further information will be provided as it becomes available.
