Nipissing University’s Centre for Continuing Education is pleased to announce the launch of a new lifelong learning initiative in Muskoka.

The initiative helps the university to better serve the Muskoka region by offering courses aimed at community members and visitors. Four courses will be delivered in Bracebridge and Huntsville this July:

Poles in Peril: Walking on thin ice
Huntsville, July 7 – 11
Professor: Dr. Eric Mattson
View the impacts of global warming on snow cover, sea ice, glaciers and permafrost as well as on flora, fauna and indigenous residents through the expeditions of Dr. Eric Mattson to the High Arctic and Antarctica.

From Mind to Movie: A peep behind the Scenes of making a feature film Huntsville, July 14 - 18
Professor: Dr. William Plumstead
From the director’s vision, the actors’ interpretations, the cinematographer’s visual energy, the designer’s eye for wardrobe and settings, to the editor’s sense of flow and pacing, we will discuss challenges and roles in film creativity.

What's Love Got to Do With It?
Bracebridge, July 21 - 25
Professor: Dr. Douglas H. Parker
Incestuous, adulterous, innocent love, set within a context of political intrigue and familial disharmony, ignites discussion when considering the dramatic representation of various types of love in two of Shakespeare's best known tragedies; Romeo and Juliet, and Hamlet.

Journey into the Self: Meditation east and west Bracebridge, July 28 - August 1
Professor: Dr. Susan Srigley
Learn spiritual knowledge through spiritual practice. Meditation from the Tibetan Buddhist tradition and contemplative prayer in Christian Benedictine spirituality will be discussed, compared, and practiced as we review these forms of meditation and contemplation.
