Under sunny warm skies the Patrick4Life Foundation's Family Fest wrapped up a great weekend with the 3rd annual Run/Walk Sunday at Lee Park.

The RunWalk4Patrick Family Fest features a half marathon, as well as a 2 km, 5 km, and a 10 km run/walk, as well as great food and entertainment.

After witnessing the Partici-Patrick event Friday, Julie Burke felt energized, excited and enlightened yet very aware that such an exciting event was born out of deep rooted pain and felt compelled to sit down and write a song about her experience.

Burke says she was happy to perform the piece during the run/walk on Sunday at the request of Christine Fortin, and was pleased to provide BayToday.ca with the lyrics.

“I wrote it to help others have a greater insight into the kind of questions and thoughts that may have gone through the Fortin's mind as they choose to turn a tragedy into something truly beautiful and preserve the spirit of someone they loved so dearly,” she notes.

What would you do? by Julie Burke

Verse 1

What would you do
If all that you knew was taken from you
Where would you find the hope you are looking for

Would you find life
Despite all the darkness that surrounds you
Would you choose to give, despite the pain

Chorus

I see a rose that sprung up from the darkness
So fragile, in need of caring
People will come and marvel at its beauty
And it will bring life

Verse 2

Would you have hope
For the seed that lies in the darkness
Hope in the beauty that’s to come

For there will be pain
In this life we live
Do you choose to see the life beneath it
