Ontario is making it easier for first generation students to succeed at Nipissing University by investing $70,000 to help give students, who are the first in their family to attend college or university, the support they need, Hon. Monique Smith, MPP for Nipissing announced.

“A strong investment in today’s students is an investment in the knowledge economy of tomorrow,” said Smith.

Nipissing University will use this funding to provide online support to help rural and mature students make the transition to university.

“Nipissing thanks the provincial government for this investment. As a student centred university, we are committed to ensuring that every student has a great university experience and gets the support they need. This funding will assist us in that goal,” said Dr. Dennis Mock, Nipissing University president.

This project funding is part of a $30-million three-year investment in first generation initiatives, including bursaries for students in need.

“When we help students build a future for themselves, we help build Ontario’s future,” said Training, Colleges and Universities Minister John Milloy.
