United States Senator Ted Kennedy, 76, was airlifted to Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston today after experiencing a seizure that produced “stroke-like” symptoms and is now undergoing a battery of tests.

Hyannis Fire Department confirmed that they received a 911 call from the Kennedy compound in Hyannis port at 8:19 am where he was rushed to a Cape Code hospital.

The long time prominent liberal Democrat, who entered the Senate in November 1962, is said to be resting peacefully and doctors should have results of the tests within 48 hours.

Kennedy endorsed presidential candidate Barack Obama earlier this year.
