The owner of Sturgeon Fuels in Sturgeon Falls, a tobacco vendor, has been convicted under the Smoke Free Ontario Act of supplying tobacco to minors. This conviction is the result of charges laid by the North Bay Parry Sound District Health Unit.

On Monday, May 12, 2008 Mr. Inder Bhogal, owner of 2147074 Ontario Inc. operating as Sturgeon Fuels, plead guilty in Provincial Offences Court to one count of supplying tobacco to a person who is less than 19 years old. Mr. Bhogal was then fined $5,000 for his second sales conviction to minors, plus applicable surcharges totaling $6,255.00. Mr. Bhogal was given six months to pay.

It is an offence under the Smoke-Free Ontario Act to sell or supply tobacco to a person under 19 years old. Tobacco Enforcement Officers, with the North Bay Parry Sound District Health Unit, conduct regular enforcement checks of area tobacco vendors to ensure compliance with the Act.
