On Thursday May 15, the Nipissing Parry Sound Regional Planning Team’s School College Work Initiative will be presenting a helpful information session for parents and high school students at the Canadore College Aviation campus.

The session, part of the Trade Up program, will run from 6pm to 8pm and has been designed to provide parents and students with information on what a career in the trades entails, and how they can benefit from pursuing a trades-related career.

“This is an excellent opportunity for us to explain that careers in the trades offer plenty of diversity, an opportunity to experience the satisfaction of a hands-on job, and the potential to earn a great deal of money and job satisfaction,” said Ontario Youth Apprenticeship Program (OYAP) Coordinator for the Conseil Scolaire Catholique Franco-Nord, Lise Paulin.

The information session will communicate the options that are available for students considering a career in the trades and will feature a panel discussion featuring a number of experts in the trades. College representatives from throughout the region will be there to provide information on what their colleges have to offer and the Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities, and YES! Employment will be on hand to provide information about scholarships and bursaries.

“The goal of these information sessions is to convey the fact that the trades offer a dynamic and rewarding experience; there is huge potential and demand for people pursuing a career in the skilled trades,” said OYAP Coordinator for the Near North District School Board Dez Collins.

Parents and students are encouraged to bring their questions to this event. There will be ample time to view the discussion panel and information booths and light refreshments will be served.
