Canadore College Aviation students won awards at the Ontario Technological Skills Competition held in Kitchener at the RIM Centre.

The Skills Canada – Ontario competition, held from May 5 to 7, attracted over 1,500 competitors and 20,000 visitors from across the province. There were over 50 contests in the skilled trades and technologies categories in which elementary, secondary and postsecondary level students competed.

Two Canadore Aviation students competed in the Aircraft Maintenance competition against students from Centennial College, Confederation College and the Stevenson Aviation and Training Centre in Manitoba. The contest was designed to assess the participant’s aircraft structure and avionics skills. Jason Leslie was awarded the gold medal and Peter Rice received the bronze medal. These contests allow participants to showcase their skills, talent and knowledge while providing many networking opportunities with partners from industry, labour, government and education.

Canadore was well-represented and had a strong presence at the competitions. Our Liaison Officers along with representatives from Welding, Marine and Small Powered Equipment, and Electrical Techniques programs participated in competitions with informative, interactive displays and demonstrations.
