This year, May 11-17 is Police Week across Ontario. This year’s theme is “Working with today’s youth to build safer Communities.” This year’s theme will heighten community awareness and promote collaboration between young people to keep our communities safe through crime prevention, preparedness and social development.

Officers of the North Bay, Mattawa and Powassan OPP are committed in doing just that by providing ongoing public education, prevention programs and awareness. Programs offered such as Bullying; Cyber bullying; Internet Safety; Career in Policing; Personal Safety; DARE (Drug Abuse Resistance Education), as well as ATV and Snowmobile Initiatives are delivered throughout the year to area schools (13) as well as community groups.

Next week, Constable Dionne will be assisting the Lions Club of the area in delivering the Bike Rodeo to our local elementary schools.

• Monday, May 12th, 2008 at 10:00 a.m. at Argyle Public School, Port Loring, Ontario.

• Wednesday, May 14th, 2008 at 10:00 a.m. at Southshore Education Centre, Nipissing Township, Ontario.

• Thursday, May 15th, 2008, at 10:00 a.m. at the Powassan Community Centre starting with Mapleridge Public School and then at 12 noon with St.Gregory School both of Powassan, Ontario.

The children learn bicycle safety through fun activities and get a chance to compete at the Regional Bike Rodeo, organized by members of the Lions Club which is held in Trout Creek on June 7th, 2008.

Help us provide more effective policing in our area. Support your police during the week of May 11-17, and all year long. Join the OPP and help make your community a safe, strong and prosperous one.
