As a result of recent efforts to streamline and harmonize walleye regulations in Ontario and Québec, the North Bay District of the Ministry of Natural Resources wants to inform anglers of some important, recent changes to fishing regulations on the Ottawa River, including Lake Timiskaming (Fisheries Management Zone 12) .

Beginning this year, the walleye and sauger season in Fisheries Management Zone 12 (Ottawa River and Lake Timiskaming) will re-open to angling on May 16, 2008 (Friday before the third Saturday). For the Ottawa River portion of Zone 12, this is one week later than in previous years.

The catch and possession limit for walleye and sauger, combined, in Zone 12 have been reduced to five fish, in total, down from 6 in previous years.

In addition, a new size limit takes effect this year for walleye and sauger in Zone 12. From March 1st and June 15th inclusive, anglers are not permitted to harvest walleye or sauger greater than 40 cm in length in Zone 12. This size restriction is designed mainly to protect pre-spawning walleye..

Anglers who fish in waters that lie both in Ontario and Quebec must include the total number of fish caught anywhere in those waters as part of the number caught and kept or possessed under the Ontario recreational fishing regulations when bringing those fish into Ontario.
