Area students ready to take on Ottawa

The North Bay Regional Science Fair committee is thrilled to send four promising projects to the 2008 Canada-Wide Science Fair, to be held in Ottawa, May 10th through 18th. The students are busy polishing their presentations in preparation for scrutiny by some of the 200 judges in the seven categories of Biotechnology, Computing and Mathematical Sciences, Earth and Environmental Sciences, Engineering, Automotive, Life Sciences, and Physical Sciences at this national event. Numerous medals, scholarships, bursaries and cash awards are available to successful competitors.

The four brilliant projects include:

Muhammad Waja of Widdifield S.S. with his Senior Physical Science project “Remediation Sensation”,

Meghan Buckle of St. Hubert Catholic and her Junior Engineering project “How Safe Are Our Children”;

Michael Gorda of M T Davidson Public School for his Junior Engineering project “Ice Ace”, and

Zamir Meralli and Ryan Willick of West Ferris with their Senior Engineering project “Go With the Flow”.

The Canada-Wide Science Fair is the largest extra-curricular youth activity related to science and technology in Canada, bringing together our country’s best young minds. Each year, some 450 top young scientists are chosen to compete from the best ranks of approximately 25,000 competitors at over one hundred regional science and technology fairs staged across the country.

These elite participants compete in seven divisions and three age categories for medals and other prizes worth over $900,000.

For anyone who would like to meet and greet the team on their return to Via Rail Bus Lines, arrival is at 3:20 p.m., Sunday, May 18th.
