Students from Grades 4-8 in several area schools are at the half-way mark in their goal of running a 40k marathon.

During the 10-week program, the students become aware of the importance of physical activity, healthy choices and of the realities of HIV/AIDS while doing character and self-esteem building activities.

The 2nd annual project is a unique partnership between all four boards across the Nipissing and Parry-Sound region.

A declaration banner is travelling through participating area schools where students and staff are signing to show their commitment to the project.

It will be displayed June 6th at Thomson Park where over 2,000 students as well as teachers and volunteers will join North Bay City Mayor Vic Fedeli and Education Minister Kathleen Wynne to run their last 2.2Ks.

*Partici-Patrick is a project named for Patrick Fortin, a young man from North Bay who contracted HIV/AIDS through tainted blood and died in 2001at the age of 23.

Patrick’s passion for life continues to inspire us and this project.
