The Nipissing-Parry Sound Catholic District School Board is hosting an Aboriginal student self-identification information evening for parents and students on Wednesday, May 7 at 7 p.m. at St. Joseph-Scollard Hall Catholic Secondary School.

The session will provide families with information regarding the implementation of a voluntary and confidential Aboriginal self-identification policy, which will help support Aboriginal students in the following ways:

- Improve programming for Aboriginal students

- Increase secondary school graduation rates

- Provide learning opportunities that nurture a sense of belonging and an appreciation of Aboriginal perspectives, values and cultures

- Increase overall retention of Aboriginal students

- Promote effective and respectful working relationships and partnerships with Aboriginal parents and the community
