North Bay Fire Inspector Randy Vezina has issued a warning to the public to check their light bulbs as a certain 15 watt florescent light bulb is posing a fire hazard.

Vezina says he has received reports of the light bulb on two separate occasions.

“We’ve had two of these lights brought into our office in the past two weeks,” he explains.

“We knew we had to do something about the situation because need to know about the risk, so we contacted the media.”

The Pur-light bulbs are spiral shaped with a UL sticker and the lot number E222-787 - 53SJ.

Vezina says the bulbs are self ballast and that is where they fail, overheat, and melt the plastic which in turn can start a fire. He encourages everyone to check if they have bulbs and if so, remove them and bring them back to the point of purchase or bring them to Fire Station 1 on Princess Street.
