Students at W.J. Fricker Senior Public School will be energizing their minds throughout our exciting Education Week events. Our focus this year is literacy. We will be hosting exciting school-wide activities that feature a keynote speaker and workshops taught by the teaching staff on Thursday, May 1 and Friday, May 2.

Our guest speaker is Dr. Bill Plumstead, professor, writer, and producer. Besides his outstanding lectures, he is known for his novels Loon and Freddy Dimwhistle’s North Country Sketchbook. His latest project is a film based on the novel Loon called That Beautiful Somewhere which was filmed in North Bay. Dr. Plumstead is sure to entertain our students during two special presentations.

Teams of teachers will be delivering two workshop style days to the students at W.J. Fricker. All workshops have a focus on literacy and include sessions such as “The Crime Scene Picnic,” role play drama, and interactive read-alouds which are sure to be energizing experiences.

Our “Passport to Literacy” days include prizes from Gulliver’s Books, book signing by Dr. Plumstead, unique prizes donated by Lynn Johnston, and a nutritious snack for students after our daily physical activity.
