The North Bay Rotary Club is hosting a $100 a plate fund raising dinner to honour former Ontario Premier, Mike Harris, recently appointed honorary chair of the Canadore/Nipissing library fundraising committee.

Past Rotary District Governor, Jack Lockhart will present Mr. Harris with a Paul Harris Fellowship, which comes with a plaque, a medal and a lapel pin.

$1-thousand (U.S.) will be contributed to the Rotary Foundation in his name. A Paul Harris Fellowship is Rotary’s highest honour. It recognizes ‘Service Above Self.’

Proceeds from the dinner will support the North Bay Rotary Club’s $125,000 commitment toward the new $18-million library complex, announced in February, 2008 by Minister of Training, Colleges and Universities John Milloy, and Revenue Minister, Monique Smith (who will attend the dinner, and make a presentation to Mr. Harris on behalf of the Ontario Government).

Rotary President Bob Sampson said this about Rotary’s pledge to the new library, “Our motivation to support the project lies in the belief that it will not only serve the students but anyone in the community who possesses a library card from any library in the district.”

Among the approximately 200 people attending the dinner to honour Mr. Harris and support the new library are: M.P.P Monique Smith, M.P. Anthony Rota, Mayor Vic Fedeli, Nipissing University President Dennis Mock, Canadore College President Barbara Taylor, former Mayor Jack Burrows, and many others.
