Our colleagues Dan and Jamie pulled the rabbit out of the hat once again by wrapping up the Longest Morning Radio Marathon Thursday morning raising a record breaking $87,684.25 to help disabled children in our area.

The duo spent 53 hours on air to raise money for Rotary For Kids.

Instead of tears this year Jamie O'Connell was all smiles telling the crowd who gathered to ring in the final minutes of the fundraiser that she felt pumped up.

“I can’t imagine not doing this,” she says.

“This is about families helping families.”

O’Connell admits that when they were not at their goal this morning she was worried that they would have to explain to the special needs children why they would not get to participate in the same opportunities that other children can.

“But again this year people are there to help and donate,” says a relieved Dan Hunt.

Overjoyed by the results NADDY member Lori Venasse says the kids will have a great year.

“We have 40 disabled youth registered in the summer program,” she says.

“The wheels are already turning!”

As for Dan and Jamie the only wheels turning for them where on the chauffeured car taking them home for a well deserved rest.

“We did it and it worked,” says a tired O’Connell.

“It worked and I’d do it again.”

The money raised from the radio marathon stays in the community and will continue to support the various programs and services available for special needs children locally.
