A new website will provide Ontario communities with information about weather and flooding risks, and advice on what to do in the event of a flood.

Heavy snowfalls this winter have raised concerns in many communities about the potential risk of flooding as the weather warms over the next few weeks.

“We want Ontarians to have access to real-time information to help keep their families, their homes and communities safe from the threat of floods,” said Natural Resources Minister Donna Cansfield.

QUICK FACTS

• The Ministry of Natural Resources monitors and forecasts flood conditions in Ontario using stream flows, snow and ice conditions and weather forecasts.

• High-tech equipment monitors lakes, rivers and streams in Ontario.

• More than 4,000 sensors at 1,200 stations across the province provide information on water levels.
