Canadore College’s Artist in Residence, Keith Campbell, has been commissioned by the Archive of Ontario for their Hands on History Project.

The Archive’s project is in conjunction with the George Gardiner Museum of Ceramic Arts. Ceramic artists from across Ontario were called upon to submit proposals to create a large ceramic tile using an historic theme. Once complete the tiles will be mounted and displayed in the new Archive of Ontario building. Campbell was one of eight artists chosen out of 60 applicants. The works will become part of the permanent collection at the museum and the artists will receive $2000 for their finished work. Campbell will be creating a tile using the images of 12 historic people in a collage design called The Face of Ontario. The project will be completed by September 2008.

Award-winning Campbell has been very busy on the art scene this year. Recently he was a juror on the Ontario Arts Council Grants Jury where almost $190,000 was awarded to craftspeople across Ontario.

Also, two pieces of Campbell’s work will be on exhibit at the International Cone Box Exhibition in Kansas and another of his works called Rebellion is being purchased by the Art Gallery of Winnipeg for their permanent collection,
