The North Bay Indian Friendship Centre (NBIFC) hosted the Annual Children’s Pow-Wow ‘Honouring Our Mothers’ over the weekend.

The celebration opened with prayers, songs, and on Saturday the children honoured their mothers by presenting flowers to all the mothers, while Sunday’s event witnessed a presentation of special shawls to cancer survivors.

Local participant George Couchie says the Pow Wow is in celebration of the connection people have to mother earth, as well as to honour mothers because they are the givers of life. He also says a Pow Wow is a great celebration that allows self discovery for the Aboriginal community and allows everyone the opportunity to learn about traditions and culture.

“Everyone is welcome ... all denominations,” he says.
