Motor Madness returns

Nipissing Area Scouts will hold Motor Madness 2008 – a combined Beaver Buggy Bustout, Kub Kar Rally and Scout Truck Rodeo – Saturday, April 5, at the Education Centre cafeteria.

This major event draws Beavers, Cubs and Scouts from Scouting groups from all over the district, as well as Cubs and Scouts from the Sudbury and Timmins areas. We expect to have more than 200 participants.

Beaver Buggies are woodcraft racing kits that Beavers, boys and girls ages 5 to 7, assembled, painted and raced. Kub Kars are wood model racing cars designed, assembled and modified by Cubs, boys and girls ages 8 to 10, from a block of wood. Scout Trucks are wood model 18-wheeled semi-trailers designed, assembled and modified by Scouts, youth 11 to 14, from a woodcraft kit.

Opening ceremonies begin at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 5 with Kub Kar and Beaver Buggy racing set to start at 10:15 a.m. Beaver races will end about noon, while Kub Kar racing continues until about 3 p.m. The Scout Truck Rodeo will begin about 4 p.m. and end by 8 p.m.

Nipissing Area has held annual Kub Kar Rallies since the early 1970s. Scout Truck Rodeos were started in the mid-1990s, and the Beaver Buggy Bustout was added only four years ago.

Admission is free and open to all.
