Nipissing University business students are volunteering their time and skills to help individuals complete their 2007 income tax and benefit returns.

Part of Nipissing University’s Biidaaban Community Service-Learning program, the tax preparation service is conducted through the Canada Revenue Agency as part of the Volunteer Income Tax Program. It provides assistance with simple tax returns for low income individuals ($25,000 for a single person; $30,000 for a two-person household; additional $2000 per child). Returns must be simple in nature, with no deceased persons, no business income, and no rental income.

For the Nipissing students, many of whom are planning a career in accounting, this program provides them with an opportunity to practice client interviews, exposed them to various tax situations, and allows them to see the CRA guidelines in action.

The tax clinics are taking place on Saturday, March 15, and Saturday, March 29 from 9 a.m.–1 p.m. at Nipissing’s recently opened downtown location (100 Main Street East).

To book an appointment, call 474-3450 ext. 4891. Appointments will take approximately 20-30 minutes.
