News Release

The Greater Nipissing Stewardship Council (GNSC), as part of its approach to increase awareness about the Council’s expanded mandate and solicit support, will be attending a joint meeting of Callander’s municipal council and development committee this Thursday at 7:00 p.m. at the municipal office.

“This presentation will also provide an excellent opportunity for our Council to highlight some of our projects and initiatives”, stated Council Chair, John Thornton.

Thornton added “we see this exercise as a starting point with the goal of hosting a follow-up session in the community to discuss project ideas with interested groups and individuals”.

This is in keeping with one of GNSC’s key objectives – “”To act as a catalyst, in partnership with other organizations or individuals, assisting to achieve the desired outcomes of projects that will benefit the environment of the greater Nipissing area”.

The Council has already made presentations to Powassan and Nipissing councils. The plan is to eventually meet with each municipality within the greater Nipissing area, Nipissing First Nation and Dokis First Nation Councils and the Chambers of Commerce in North Bay and Sturgeon Falls.

The GNSC is a charitable organization that partners with similar-minded groups and government agencies to implement environmental programs; provide information on conservation and sustainability; and to increase awareness of the ecosystem. The Council relies upon a strong core of volunteers from member organizations to implement many of its initiatives. The greater Nipissing area encompasses Marten River to Trout Creek and Mattawa to Hagar, an area larger than Algonquin Provincial Park.
